Greenware may be stacked in the kiln two or three pieces high if they are well supported to avoid warpage. Loading For Glaze FirngWhen loading the kiln for a glaze firing, none of the pieces should touch because they will stick to each other.Also the glaze should not contact kiln shelves because it will not only ruin your piece of pottery or ceramic but the kiln shelf. Stilts can be used for earthenware and other low temperature firings. For porcelain and stoneware the pieces should be dry footed, so that they can be placed directly on shelves. If these high fire pieces were put on stilts there would be the risk of distortion during firing.
